Petition to the Government of Canada

We, the undersigned, provide our voices in unison with the Lubicon Lake Nation and require that the Government of Canada meet with Chief Bernard Ominayak, the leadership of the Lubicon Lake Nation and their people immediately.

We also require that INAC (AANDC) immediately stop all meetings outside of Lubicon territory with anyone other than representatives named by Chief Ominayak and the government of the Lubicon Lake Nation.

Finally, we require that the imposed Third Party Management, external assessment process, and “mediation” processes that the Nation has not been a party to cease immediately and that the Government of Canada refrain from all further interference with the community and its long established customs.

We share the position of the Lubicon Lake Nation that any interaction with the Nation can only be undertaken with the full, informed and written consent of the Lubicon Lake Nation government as represented by Chief Ominayak and its leadership.

Welcome to the website for the Lubicon Lake Nation

We are the Lubicon Lake Nation: a sovereign and self-determining peoples. The Lubicon Lake Nation is a distinct Indigenous Nation with a well-defined traditional Territory in what is now known as north-central Alberta, Canada (see Map). We are Cree peoples, Neheyiwak, and were and have been hunting, fishing and trapping on our Traditional Territory long before the creation of Canada. We continue to occupy and protect our Traditional Territory today. We have never surrendered or ceded our land to a foreign government. Our Nation maintains jurisdiction over, authority for, and autonomy of our Traditional Territory, Nation and peoples.
