International Support

Posted in Educational Resources

Our Nation has been a part of a rich solidarity movement of impartial national and international bodies which acknowledge our sovereignty and right of self-determination and which maintain a relationship with us that supports our health, territoriality and right to govern ourselves.

We have found the most satisfactory alliances with organizations that are aware of the cause and effects of genocide, imperialism and colonization (including attempts to dismantle our government, refusal to acknowledge our laws, invasion on our lands, etc.).  Amnesty International has been a stalwart ally, advocating for us internationally and working with our people to publicize the Canadian government's attempts to dismantle our nation.  Amnesty International has also been a great friend to us in their publicizing of and grassroots organization against invasion of our territory.  Significantly, the organization has documented the Government of Canada's 20 years' denial of recommendations made by the United Nations Human Rights Committee and the continuing impact on us as a Nation.

Additionally, our Nation has alliances with other organizations, including Friends of the Lubicon (Toronto) and Outaouais Lubicon Solidarity (OLS).  These relationships are characterized by mutual respect.  We appreciate the unwillingness of each organization to engage in Canadian driven dialogues about leadership of our Nation.

If you are an individual or an organization who would like to participate in a grassroots campaign to continue to internationalize the message of our Nation, please contact us at:  This email address is being protected from spambots. The Lubicon Lake Nation citizens invite you to take part in advocating for our freedom from invasion, colonial intrusion and the attempted forcible legislative confinement experienced by our people.  We invite you to take part in our letter writing campaign, within which you can tell Prime Minister Harper, John Morris Duncan (Minister of Indian Affairs, Canada) and Len Webber (Alberta Ministers of Aboriginal Relations) about your concerns with the continued attempts to invade and expopriate Lubicon Lake Nation land, to coerce and bully our leadership, and the attempts to define and impose foreign legal standards on our citizens in our territories.

For your convenience, or to assist with your drafting, please see the following links to Prime Minister Harper, Minister Duncan, and Alberta Minister Webber.

We appreciate your time, your effort and your commitment in supporting the us as independent Indigenous peoples living on our unceded territory.

Welcome to the website for the Lubicon Lake Nation

We are the Lubicon Lake Nation: a sovereign and self-determining peoples. The Lubicon Lake Nation is a distinct Indigenous Nation with a well-defined traditional Territory in what is now known as north-central Alberta, Canada (see Map). We are Cree peoples, Neheyiwak, and were and have been hunting, fishing and trapping on our Traditional Territory long before the creation of Canada. We continue to occupy and protect our Traditional Territory today. We have never surrendered or ceded our land to a foreign government. Our Nation maintains jurisdiction over, authority for, and autonomy of our Traditional Territory, Nation and peoples.
